Having a baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is often an unexpected journey. The staff of the Children's Wisconsin-Fox Valley Hospital NICU will do their best to help you as well as your baby.

Children’s Wisconsin in Neenah has a 20-bed pediatric unit. Our specially trained staff provides family-centered care for children of all ages -- from newborns to teens. We encourage family members to be involved in their child's care decisions and we listen carefully to each patient's family because parents know their child best. We offer space for parents to sleep and shower so they can stay close to their children.

Children's Wisconsin has specialty outpatient clinics in Appleton and East De Pere to provide local care for kids with health care needs from birth to young adulthood. Our clinics complement the inpatient services at Children's Wisconsin-Fox Valley Hospital in Neenah and offer a convenient, close-to-home treatment option for families who don't live near Children's Wisconsin in Milwaukee.

Pediatric unit

• Telephones: Every patient room has a direct telephone line. Cellular telephones are allowed in the Pediatric Unit. Cell phone use is also permitted in the lounge outside the entrance to the unit.
• Visiting: All visitors need to be healthy. Please do not visit if you are not feeling well (see our infection control guidelines below). Parents and grandparents may visit a child at any time. Siblings may visit during visiting hours if they are with a parent, unless special visitor rules are in place. Visiting hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• Family and visitor badges: Identification badges are required 24 hours a day. All visitors and family members must get visitor badges at the nurses' station and return them after each visit.
• Pantry: Snacks, sandwiches, and drinks are available in our pantry for those patients and families who need something after regular food service hours are over. There is a refrigerator for families who wish to bring in their own food.

Neonatal intensive care unit

• Telephones: Every patient room has a direct telephone line. Cellular telephones are not allowed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in order to keep the environment calm and quiet. Cell phone use is permitted in the lounge outside the entrance to the unit.
• Visiting: All visitors need to be healthy. Please do not visit if you are not feeling well (see our infection control guidelines below). Parents and guardians, grandparents (if parents approve them visiting by themselves) and up to two specified "superheroes" may visit at any time. Visitors must be 12 years of age or older, unless they are a sibling (brother or sister) of an infant. Siblings must be 2 years of age or older and are welcome to visit with parents or guardians. All visits by anyone under the age of 18 will be limited to one hour per day. Siblings must be with a parent. Sibling visits may be limited during winter and flu season. Please ask the nurse for more information about sibling visits. We ask that families limit visitors to four people at the bedside at one time. This number may be decreased if the staff decides that the baby needs more rest.

Meals

ThedaCare Regional Medical Center has a full-service cafeteria located on the lower level. Get more details on meal service.

Hours are:

• Breakfast: 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
• Light breakfast: 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
• Lunch: 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
• Dinner: 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Children's Wisconsin-Fox Valley Hospital in Neenah is dedicated to providing community services to enhance our overall mission to improve the health status of children throughout Wisconsin.

We offer or support a variety of resources and programs for children, parents, health care providers, teachers, caregivers, law enforcement and other community agencies in order to increase the safety and well-being of our children from birth through adolescence.

• The Fox Valley Child Advocacy Center is a safe place for children who may have been neglected or abused, and provides resources to help children and their families heal.
• Awareness to Action (A2A) is funded by Children’s Wisconsin and implemented locally through the Sexual Assault Crisis Center in Appleton.
• The Northeast Regional Center for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) is one of five Regional Centers in Wisconsin. Wisconsin Regional Centers support families with children and youth with special needs and the providers who serve them by offering free and confidential services that include information and referral, parent support, information on health insurance and benefits, transition planning and connections to community resources.
  • Located on the second and third floors of the hospital, CYSHCN operates resource libraries to provide books, pamphlets, brochures, videos, access to computers, etc., for parents and caregivers on a variety of child health related topics. A staff person is also available on the second floor clinic area as a live resource for all families Monday - Thursday, from 8 a.m. through Noon.
• The Wisconsin Statewide Medical Home Initiative promotes the "medical home" concept — a family-centered, team approach to health care — to primary care providers, families and health service providers throughout Wisconsin.
