Children’s Wisconsin offers respiratory therapy services at our nationally ranked Milwaukee and Fox Valley hospitals and pulmonary specialty clinics. Our Pulmonary Medicine Program was named among the nation's best in U.S. News & World Report's 2023-2024 Best Children's Hospitals. Our program includes Wisconsin's only pediatric sleep center accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. It is one of only 25 accredited centers in the country dedicated solely to children.

Year 1 Intern Details

  • Currently enrolled in the first year of a respiratory therapy program
  • Maintains, cleans and prepares equipment and supplies for patient care
  • Restocks equipment and supplies to maintain appropriate levels
  • Performs a variety of support functions as needed by the respiratory department
  • Assists the hospital with patient safety initiatives such as the “sitter program,” which observes patients to maintain a safe environment

Year 2 Intern Details

  • Currently enrolled in the second year of a respiratory therapy program
  • Provides quality respiratory care to pediatric through adult patients in an acute care and emergency department setting in accordance with established policies and procedures under the supervision of a respiratory care practitioner
  • Explains procedures and treatments to patient
  • Performs medication administration via aerosol and MDI. Utilizes PEP/PAP devices, therapy vest, IPV machine and cough assist devices
  • Performs miscellaneous delegated tasks as necessary
  • Shadow opportunities in PICU and NICU are available as time allows
  • Assists the hospital with patient safety initiatives such as the “sitter program,” which observes patients to maintain a safe environment
