Support Programs, Services, and Tools for G-Tube Care

When your child uses a G-tube, having the right support makes all the difference. We connect you with helpful tools and advice.

Families with a child who has a G-tube might qualify for help. This includes financial aid, nutrition programs, school support, transportation, and more. A social worker can guide you to services based on your child’s needs and your family’s situation.

Includes state and federal programs that help cover medical expenses, supplies, and more.

  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI): Needs-based grant and insurance card. Apply through your local Social Security office or call (800) 772-1213.
  • Katie Beckett Program: Insurance for kids with long-term disabilities or complex medical needs. Parent income does not apply. Call (800) 362-3002 to learn more.
  • Medical Assistance Spend Down: Helps families who do not qualify for SSI or the Katie Beckett Program apply for medical coverage. Call your county’s Department of Human Services to learn more.
  • Family Financial Support Program: Limited funds to buy items not covered by insurance. Call (800) 773-5433.
  • BadgerCare: Health care coverage for uninsured families living in Wisconsin. Visit BadgerCare Plus or call (800) 362-3002.

  • Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program: Offers healthy foods, nutrition education, and referrals for families who qualify.

Resources to support your child’s feeding, development, and education.

  • ZERO TO THREE: A program focused on the healthy development of babies and toddlers up to age 3 who are at risk for developmental delays.
  • Individual Educational Plan (IEP): Local school districts offer an IEP for kids with medical or developmental needs after age 3.

  • Children’s Wisconsin Schoolroom: Hospital-based school services during hospital stays.
  • School transition support: A social worker can help coordinate your child’s return to school after a G-tube placement.

Help with getting to appointments and parking.

  • Medical transportation or mileage reimbursement: Your state’s medical assistance program may cover travel to appointments. Your social worker can help you with this.
  • Disabled parking permit: Families of kids with a temporary or permanent disability may qualify. Call (608) 266-3041 or download the disabled parking pass.
