Since 2022, we have helped patients who think they have a penicillin allergy. Our goal is to confirm if you truly have an allergy or if you can safely take penicillin. • Get Better Medicine: Penicillin is often the best and safest medicine for many common sicknesses. When you are labeled as allergic, doctors must use stronger and sometimes more dangerous antibiotics instead.
• Save Money: Penicillin is often less expensive than other antibiotics.
• Get Home Faster: Patients with a false allergy sometimes have to spend more time in the hospital.
• It's Very Safe: The chance of a serious reaction during testing, like anaphylaxis, is extremely low.

During Your Appointment

We will review your brief health history and fill out a penicillin allergy questionnaire. The testing process depends on whether your risk is low or high:

Low-Risk Patients: You will be given a small amount of amoxicillin (a type of penicillin) by mouth and watched closely for a short time.

High-Risk Patients: You will have three steps of testing:

• Skin Prick Test (Percutaneous Testing)
• Skin Injection Test (Intracutaneous Injection)
• Oral Challenge (Taking the medicine by mouth)

After Your Appointment

We will tell you right away if you are positive (still allergic) or negative (no allergy). The results will be updated in your electronic health record (MyChart). Then, a letter with the results will be sent to your main doctor and your pharmacy.
