Coordination and proximity of neonatal care
- Our Level IV NICU is the only one in Wisconsin and is located within the same hospital as a high-risk birth center.
- Fetal Concerns Center cares for you and your baby. We care for mothers who are high risk and babies who have known problems before birth.
- An entire team takes care of your baby. This includes nutrition, feeding, physical and occupational therapy
- Your family is at the center of our care. We encourage parents to participate in rounds, we have education sessions, we assist with breastfeeding and we help you bond with your baby.
- At our Milwaukee Hospital, we offer the March of Dimes NICU Family Support Program. This program provides support to your family and provides professional education for NICU staff.
- At our Fox Valley Hospital, volunteers in the NICU Family Host Program supports your family. These volunteers have experienced the NICU and are specially trained to help you and your family.

- Our Milwaukee and Fox Valley hospitals have both earned Magnet recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), which is awarded for demonstrating sustained superiority in nursing care
- Our Milwaukee NICU and Fox Valley NICU are members of the Vermont Oxford Network, which allows us to share data to improve the quality and safety of medical care for newborns
- Our Milwaukee NICU is a member of the Children's Hospitals Neonatal Consortium, which is dedicated to improving care and outcomes for infants in Children's Wisconsin NICUs through sharing of data, information and ideas for benchmarking, research and development of safety and quality improvement initiatives
Monitoring and follow-up boost health outcomes
Children’s Wisconsin provides follow-up care for babies after discharge who need special care after birth, are at risk for developmental delays or have ongoing medical problems.
HOPE Clinic: Healthy Outcomes: Post-ICU Engagement addresses the needs of all high-risk infants discharged from our NICU/CICU from discharge to three years old.
DREAM Clinic: Developmentally Ready: Engagement and Achievement of Milestones addresses the needs of all infants with severe brain injury or required
Forward Team: This team of providers in the Children's Wisconsin NICU will care for your baby with Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD). BPD is a disease that affects the lungs of babies born too early.
Neonatal Neurocritical Care
We provide care for preterm and newborn babies who have experienced or are at risk for brain injury and developmental issues in our NICU. Our specialized Neurosciences Center includes neurologists, neonatologists, neurosurgeons and highly skilled nursing staff. Our team works together to provide the best possible neurologic and developmental outcomes for your baby.

Level 1 Pediatric Surgery Center
If your baby needs surgery after birth, the Children’s Wisconsin Surgery Center has the highest level of surgical care. Our Level 1 center is the only one in the state of Wisconsin and has performed hundreds of surgeries for newborns.
