Our Electrophysiology Program offers specialized care for children who have heart rhythm problems or are living with an implantable pacemaker or ICD device. We also coordinate for patients and families with inherited arrhythmia diseases.
Our pediatric electrophysiologists perform catheter ablations, pacemaker insertions and cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implantations. They also can do other high-level procedures that no one else in Wisconsin can.
In collaboration with our Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program, we also manage abnormal heart beats (arrhythmias) in adults who were born with heart disease.
Because of our skill and resources, we see the most difficult cases. Our success stories include children with life-threatening and hard-to-control arrhythmias. Many of these children have come to Children's Wisconsin using extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), a type of portable heart-lung bypass machine.
