Watch: Advancing Heart Care Through Cardiac Precision Medicine
Funding the next wave of advancements in congenital heart disease is not always easy.
Basic research funding has traditionally come from the government, via the National Institutes of Health (NIH). But NIH funding has been drastically cut and the portion of funds devoted to pediatric research has remained flat since fiscal year 1992.
With this decrease of national funds, the Herma Heart Institute sought to find a way to find more sustainable ways to support innovations for children living with heart disease.
Hear from Joy Lincoln, PhD, Director of Cardiovascular Research at the Herma Heart Institute, about our cardiac precision medicine program and our program’s focus on innovation and why this approach is critical for improving patient care and outcomes.
Together We Are on a Mission To Eradicate Congenital Heart Disease
Despite the incredible advancements in survival for congenital heart disease (CHD), more can be done to improve the lives of children and families who are affected. Children’s Wisconsin will continue to fundraise for the Herma Heart Institute with a new goal to raise additional funds to support our cardiac precision work and advance research and clinical innovation for kids with congenital heart disease and defects.
Individuals interested in supporting the Herma Heart Institute's research and innovation can visit our donation page or call the Children’s Wisconsin Foundation at (414) 266-6100.
