Our team will carefully review your child’s medical history and travel plans to provide destination-specific recommendations for pre-travel vaccinations, medications, and other information to help your child stay safe and healthy while traveling.

Our team sees children under 18 years old who are planning to travel abroad to locations including Africa, South and Central America, the Caribbean and East, Central, West, South and Southeast Asia.

Our providers have a special interest in preventing, diagnosing and managing illnesses in patients traveling internationally. In addition, they have experience managing medically complex patients and designing care plans to suit their individual needs.

Patients can be referred to the Pediatric Travel Clinic by their primary care provider or by self-referral through the Children’s Central Scheduling service.

Before Your Visit

• We recommend contacting your insurance provider to understand what services and cares are covered by your insurance plan.
• Some services provided by the Pediatric Travel Clinic may require out-of-pocket payment, and we are happy to further discuss these with you during your appointment. 

During Your Visit

• Medical History and Assessment: One of our trained providers to identify location-specific risks and travel needs based on your personal history.
• Vaccinations: It is important to have updated routine and travel-specific vaccinations to prevent infection during travel.
• Laboratory Testing: Testing may be needed to determine existing immunity to infections.
• Prescriptions for Medications: Depending on travel locations, medications may be needed to prevent malaria, diarrhea, motion sickness, jet lag and altitude sickness.
• Patient Education: Education will be provided regarding topics such as food and water safety, insect precautions, injury prevention, animal bites, emergency medical care and evacuation, travel insurance and traveling with medically complex children.
• Post-Travel Continuity: Our clinic provides a medical home for all post-travel related needs, including testing and treatment for travel-related infections, illnesses or injuries.
