Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) occurs when a small piece of bone and cartilage in a part of a joint separates from the bone around it. The type of osteochondritis dissecans found in kids and teens is known as juvenile osteochondritis dissecans (JOCD). This condition is different than the OCD found in adult populations and requires different treatment plans. OCD is most common in the knee joint, but it can happen in other joints such as the elbow and ankle. The condition can be mild, moderate or severe.
