When To Go To Urgent Care
The Emergency Department is for more serious illnesses and injuries. Below is a general guide to help you determine whether to seek urgent care or emergency care. You can also read our blog or use our symptom checker to help decide how to help your child.
For emergencies, please call 9-1-1 or go directly to the nearest emergency room.
Seek Urgent Care For:
Earache or ear infections
Sore or strep throat
Sinus infections
Colds or flu
Pink eye or mild eye complaints
Urinary tract infections
Persistent cough not accompanied by breathing difficulties
Minor vomiting or diarrhea
Mild abdominal issues
Minor burns or cuts
Hives, rashes or bug bites
Diaper rash
Bruises or sprains
Lice, scabies or ringworm
Minor drug reactions
Minor injuries
Mild asthma exacerbations/mild wheezing
Croup
Constipation
Seek Emergency Care For:
Major injuries
Severe pain
Worsening of a chronic illness or problem
Chest pain
Severe headache
Severe bleeding that will not stop
Choking
Poisoning
Altered consciousness
Seizures
Drug overdose
Post operative complications
Injuries of the fingernails or nailbed
Intravenous fluids or antibiotics
Severe asthma exacerbations
Psychiatric emergencies
Evaluations for abuse or after assault
Urgent care does not provide ultrasounds, CT scans or MRI studies. If your child needs one of these they will be transferred to our emergency department.
Children's Wisconsin's urgent care does not provide preventive care services like physicals or vaccines. Your child's primary care doctor can provide these services.
About Children’s Urgent Care at Delafield Clinic
Our Delafield Clinic offers urgent care for babies, children and teenagers. Urgent care is for needs that can’t wait, including things like ear aches, fevers, sore throats, rashes and minor injuries. Our Delafield Clinic offers urgent care in the evenings and on weekends.
Primary Care
Our pediatricians provide primary care at this location which includes check ups, sick visits and vaccinations.
Four individuals of any age can be with a patient or client in our Primary Care, Urgent Care, Specialty Care, imaging, outpatient laboratories, therapies and community services areas.
After Hours
If your child is sick and you’re not sure what do when our clinic is closed, we can still help. Use the symptom checker, call your primary care doctor or check out our urgent care video visit. For life threatening emergencies, go to your nearest Emergency Room or call 9-1-1.
