When your child has an emergency, Children's Wisconsin is here 24/7 with the best and safest care. From minor cuts to life-threatening injuries, we treat more injured kids than any other hospital in the state.
Our Emergency Department and Trauma Center are only for kids and teens. This means we have doctors who specialize in treating children and a hospital environment that is designed to be kid-friendly.

Level I Trauma Center
When serious accidents happen, like car crashes or falls, our Level I Trauma Center is ready to respond fast. The American College of Surgeons gives this special status only to hospitals that offer the highest quality of care.
Our trauma team is led by a pediatric surgeon and includes doctors, nurses, and other staff. Our special transport team brings over 1,000 seriously injured kids to our hospital each year by ambulance, helicopter, or plane, providing top-level care on the way.
The Highest Level of Care
A team of experts watches over the care of every injured patient to make sure they get the best treatment. We avoid surgery whenever we can. For example, we successfully treat 95% of spleen injuries and all kidney injuries without an operation.
Minimizing Radiation
If your child needs an X-ray or CT scan, we use the newest technology to expose them to the lowest amount of radiation possible. Our doses are three times lower than those at adult hospitals.
Mental and Behavioral Health Support
We care about your child's full well-being. We check for emotional stress from an injury and other issues, like anxiety or drug use. We have a mental health team available 24/7 to help kids in a crisis.
Preventing Future Injuries
We work with our Safety Center to help prevent injuries and also help young victims of violence through Project Ujima.
