What is MI paste?

MI paste stands for minimal intervention paste. MI paste is prescribed by your orthodontist. It helps to rebuild tooth enamel. It has a special milk-derived protein which helps release calcium and phosphate ions to the tooth enamel. This helps protect teeth from tooth decay and white markings (start of cavities).

Do not use MI paste if you have a milk product allergy. It contains a milk protein which may cause an allergic reaction.

Why do I need to use it?

MI paste is helpful for people who are at a higher risk of getting cavities or have white markings (start of cavities). Use the MI paste daily at bedtime.

Before you use the MI paste:

Brush all your teeth well with toothpaste and water, removing all plaque, food, and debris. Brush your teeth 2 to 3 times a day with your regular toothpaste. If you have been given high fluoride toothpaste, then brush your teeth with this toothpaste. Rinse your teeth.

Steps to apply MI paste:

1. Use a clean toothbrush, dry finger, or a cotton swab. Apply a pea size amount of MI paste to the gum line of the upper teeth and lower teeth. Especially where white markings have already started.
2. Leave it on your teeth for 2 to 3 minutes. Do not spit or swallow during this time.
3. After the 2 to 3 minutes, you can spit out any excess if needed.
4. Do not rinse out your mouth after applying. Do not drink or eat for 30 minutes after using.
5. Leave the MI paste on the teeth and go to bed.
