What is a Stool Sample?

A stool sample, also called a poop sample, is a small amount of poop collected for testing. Testing your child’s poop can help heath care providers learn more about your child’s health and determine the best plan of care. The sample collected for testing is also called a stool specimen.

Important Info About Stool Samples:

• Allow extra time when you arrive at the lab to register.
• Put each stool sample in its own collection container, unless you were given different instructions.
• Collect only 1 stool sample per day for all tests except fat tests.
• Bring only the labeled stool container or test card to the lab.
• The test your child needs will be marked. Follow the directions for each test ordered.

• Child’s first and last name.
• Date of birth.
• Date and time collected.
