Infant Discharge and Education
Your infant is ready to go home, and this is an exciting step for your family. The education below highlights what new parents and caregivers typically need to know so you can feel prepared to keep your baby safe, healthy, and cared for in the days ahead.
To Learn More, Review These Children’s Wisconsin Resources:
Rear Facing Carseat
A rear-facing car seat is a seat that faces the rear of the car. Keep children rear facing as long as they are within the weight and height limits for the car seat. Riding rear facing is safer than forward because the child’s head, neck and spine are better protected.

Period of PURPLE Crying
Learn how to soothe your baby and understand normal crying. Your Children's Wisconsin care team will provide you with a Period of PURPLE Crying booklet. You can also download the PURPLE Crying app for more resources to help. You must use the code from the front of the booklet given to you to open the app. If you need a booklet or have questions, please talk with your baby’s care team.

Lifesaver Baby (CPR)
This program teaches basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills. It also teaches you what to do if a baby’s airway becomes blocked and other lifesaving actions. This training is for education only and does not provide CPR certification.

Safe Sleep
Keeping your baby safe is your top priority. Learn how to safely position your baby for sleep at naptime or bedtime to help prevent sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
