Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer

Tom Twinem, Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer, Children's WisconsinTom Twinem is vice president and chief compliance officer of Children’s Wisconsin, the only health system in Wisconsin that is 100% dedicated to kids and teens. In his role, Tom is responsible for leadership of the Corporate Compliance team and also serves as Privacy Officer and Research Integrity Officer.

Tom joined Children’s in 1997 as the only Internal Auditor. Over the years, his role expanded as Children’s and health care complexities grew. Internal Audit and Corporate Compliance were combined and Tom became Director of Corporate Compliance. In 2019, to better reflect the evolving scope and complexity of his role, Tom was named Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer. In this role, he is also responsible for compliance with civil rights regulations for patients and families who receive services or who utilize Children’s Wisconsin services, and supports the Legal and Government Affairs teams by leading enterprise risk management activities.

Tom demonstrates a high level of integrity and executive leadership. He is known for his strong commitment to ensuring the highest levels of integrity and compliance in all areas across the Children’s health system. Over the years, he has built an exceptional Audit and Compliance team, and developed strong and trusted relationships with his colleagues, the board of directors and other partners.

Prior to joining Children’s, Tom worked for an energy company and for insurance companies directing internal auditing functions. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and his MBA from Marquette University. He is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Fraud Examiner, and certified in Healthcare Compliance and Healthcare Privacy Compliance. He has also received the designation as Certified in Risk Management Assurance based on his work on enterprise risk management.
