How are ingestions treated?

Treatment depends on what your child swallowed or was exposed to.  Your child has been treated with: 

Charcoal.  Charcoal absorbs the substance that was swallowed.  If your child was given charcoal, it will turn the stools black.  It also may cause diarrhea for several days.
Observation.  Your child was checked and watched for signs of poisoning.  You are being discharged as no problems developed.  If you have questions or are concerned after you get home, call us at 1(800) 222-1222.
