We don't often use the word "miracle" here, but then you meet 11-year-old Ian. There were many times over the last seven months when doctors didn’t know if Ian would ever leave the hospital. He was battling severe aplastic anemia (SAA) and he was very, very sick. Countless different treatments weren’t working and he actually spent a large portion of the spring in a coma.

But Ian, his family and his care team at our MACC Fund Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders never gave up hope. And thanks to eight selfless strangers who donated their time and their granulocytes (a type of white blood cells), Ian made an astonishing recovery. On August 20,  for the first time, Ian met those individuals who saved his life.
