Volunteer respite program

Our Volunteer Respite Program strengthens families with children with special health care needs by giving the parents or caregivers a much needed break through respite events and other supportive activities, such as virtual buddies, throughout the year. There is no cost for the program. The program is made possible through United Way and private funders and the support of our many community volunteers.

Respite events

Volunteer Respite Program events are attended by children with special health care needs and their siblings, age 0 to 12. While the children are enjoying a fun day of activities, their caregivers can use the time to engage in activities to help reduce stress, and strengthen relationships in and outside the family.

Events are held throughout the year at various locations, in collaboration with our community partners and volunteers. Our volunteers range from high school age students to older adults- all who share an interest in strengthening our families and the community. Volunteers are matched with children at events to provide supervision and support in engaging in activities available at the event. Nursing staff are on-hand for all toileting and medical needs. Currently due to COVID-19 our event schedule is suspended until further notice.

Virtual respite buddies

Virtual buddies provides an opportunity for community volunteers and children in the program to connect through virtual visits. It is another source of community connection for our families that can be utilized throughout the year, in addition to events that are scheduled.
