Breastfeeding and Cannabis (1609)
Key points below
How does using cannabis affect my breast milk?
We use the word cannabis to refer to marijuana, hemp, and all related products. The active ingredient in these products is tetrayhydrocannabinol (THC). THC will pass into your breast milk and to your baby. The amount of THC in breast milk can be higher than the level in your blood. Cannabis products may also have other dangerous chemicals or drugs in them that can make your baby sick.
-
Your milk provides more benefits and protection to your baby than formula.
-
However, cannabis exposure may be harmful to your baby.
