Dr. Valerie Carlberg is a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained pediatric dermatologist specializing in the care of infants, children, and adolescents. She has a special interest in caring for dermatologic conditions in children with cancer as well as cancer survivors. Having trained at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, her expertise includes the diagnosis and management of skin, hair, and nail conditions that result from chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, radiation, transplant, or immunosuppression. This includes graft versus host disease, reactions from medications, infections, and secondary skin cancers. Dr. Carlberg also has advanced procedural training and performs dermatologic surgery and laser surgery to treat congenital and acquired skin lesions such as melanocytic nevi (moles), cysts, vascular malformations (port wine stains), and scars. Finally, Dr. Carlberg is committed to continued education, teaching, and collaborative research to further improve the care of current and future patients.

My daughter gets excited to see Dr. Carlberg and has such a comfort with her because of the care and kindness she shows to her. Her and her staff do an exceptional job of asking questions to understand factors that could be impacting her hands (reason we had this follow up appt) including detergents, lotions, bath soap, cleaning products. They approach these questions in such a kind manner and share ideas of either different products or things such as wiping down her desk at school after harsher cleaning chemicals are used. This team is the gold standard for listening to and seeking information from myself and my daughter and then formulating tests to perform and options for caring for her. Dr. Carlberg went above and beyond to call after the appointment to speak through options for topical or oral medication for my daughter and allowed me the opportunity to ask questions and share concerns around the topical option. She was informative and collaborative to recommend the best approach for my daughter and we are quickly seeing results. We've worked with a lot of different staff at Children's and are always impressed with the knowledge and care that they have with our daughter. Dr. Carlberg is top tier and is a doctor that I recommend without hesitation and have the utmost trust in. I leave each appt feeling confident in our care plan (and not just what to do, but why / what she's seeing) and that all of my questions were answered. And importantly my daughter leaves the appt smiling and asking when she can see Dr. Carlberg again. I cannot say enough about her and the team she works with.

Amazing doctor, RN and visiting doctor! They were patient, didn't rush and build a trust with my daughter. There was much discussion and explaining of all the options and pros and cons for each without any pressure.

The nurse went above and beyond. I had my hands full with two kiddos and she helped wheel my stroller. She also got my 2-year-old the cutest stickers as a reward for doing vaccines. Couldn't have been a better experience!

The doctor, nurses and child life specialist were fantastic! The amount of care, support and attention they gave my son helped make a stressful procedure for him, very comfortable.

This experience is a positive experience. The doctor was great. The staff was great. My only complaint is about the hours available for appointments for working families. It's hard to get there in the middle of the afternoon when you're supposed to be working. So, after hours, after work hours would be better. That's it.
