Hearing loss and bacterial meningitis (1755)
Key points below
What is bacterial meningitis?
It is an infection that happens due to different types of germs (bacteria). Babies who have bacterial meningitis are at risk for hearing loss.
Why was your baby’s hearing tested?
A hearing screening is required in Wisconsin for all babies because newborn hearing loss is a common problem. It is important to test your baby’s hearing after a bacterial meningitis infection to make sure hearing has not changed.
☐ Your baby needs more testing in the ☐ right ear ☐ left ear ☐ both ears.
