Mepiform for use on healed scars (1081)

Key points below

What is Mepiform?

What is MepitelMepiform is a soft silicone dressing used for the care of scars. It is thin and flexible so it comes off of healed skin easily.

What is it used for?

Mepiform is used to treat scars and prevent them from getting worse. When used properly, it can also soften or decrease thick scars such as hypertrophic and keloid scars.

How do I use Mepiform?

Application

  1. Open the package and take out the dressing.
  2. Cut the Mepiform so it is at least one inch bigger than the scar.
  3. Remove the plastic backing and put the sticky side of the Mepiform over the scar. Do not stretch the Mepiform.
  4. Put the Mepiform on clean dry skin. If you put lotion on the scar, wait 30 minutes before putting Mepiform on the scarred area. This will help the Mepiform stay in place.

Dressing change and removal

  1. Mepiform should be worn for 24 hours a day. Remove the Mepiform once a day to look at and wash the skin. The Mepiform can be put back on once the skin is dry. Reuse the same piece.
  2. A new piece of Mepiform should be used when it is no longer sticky and will not stay in place.
  3. Mepiform is waterproof and can be worn in the bath or shower.

If skin breakdown or rash occurs:

  1. Take off the Mepiform.
  2. Let the skin heal and wait for the rash to go away.
  3. Use a new piece of Mepiform. Slowly increase wearing time, up to 24 hours.

If the skin breakdown or rash starts again, remove the Mepiform and call your nurse or doctor.
