What is Mepilex Border

Mepilex Border is a soft silicone dressing used to cover open wounds. It absorbs drainage and keeps the wound moist. Mepilex Border does not stick to the wound, which makes changing the dressing less painful.

What is it used for?

Mepilex Border is used for draining wounds, such as pressure ulcers, leg and foot ulcers and traumatic wounds. Mepilex border can also be used along with specific gels. It can also be used around G tubes.

How to use

  1. Wash hands with soap and water. Dry with a clean towel.
  2. Clean the wound as you were told by the doctor or nurse. Dry the skin around the wound.
  3. Take the plastic sheet off the Mepilex Border. How to use
  4. Put the sticky side of the Mepilex Border on the wound. Do not stretch the Mepilex Border. It should be at least one inch larger than the wound.
  5. If tape is used, only tape the edges of the Mepilex Border.
  6. To remove the dressing, gently lift one corner and slowly remove it.

How often does it need to be changed?

Mepilex Border may be left in place for several days depending on the condition of the wound and the skin near it. It should be changed when the drainage reaches the edges of the pad, or as directed by your nurse or doctor.
