Mepilex lite for use with lightly draining wounds (1085)
Key points below
What is Mepilex® Lite?
Mepilex Lite is a soft silicone dressing that is used on wounds that have little or no drainage. It absorbs drainage and keeps the wound moist. It doesn’t stick to the wound, which makes changing the dressing less painful.
What is it used for?
Mepilex Lite is for wounds that have little or no drainage, such as leg and foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, partial thickness burns, radiation skin reactions and Epidermolysis Bullosa. Mepilex Lite can also be used to protect fragile skin around G-tubes.
- It can be cut to fit different wound shapes and locations.
- It can be used under compression bandaging such as Tubigrip®, Jobst® or Ace® wrap.
- It can be used with gels.
Instructions for use
- Wash hands with soap and water. Dry with a clean towel.
- Clean the wound as you were told by the doctor or nurse. Dry the skin around the wound.
- Cut the Mepilex Lite to the correct size. Mepilex Lite should be cut at least one inch larger than the wound.
- Take the plastic sheet off the Mepilex Lite.
- Put the sticky side of the Mepliex Lite on the wound. Do not stretch the Mepilex Lite.
- If tape is needed to secure, only tape the edges.
- To remove the dressing, gently lift one corner and slowly remove it.
How often does it need to be changed?
Mepilex Lite may be left in place for several days depending on the condition of the wound and the skin around it. Your child’s doctor or nurse will tell you how often to change the Mepilex Lite.
