Mepilex AG (1117)

Key points below

What is Mepilex AGĀ®?What is Mepilex AG

Mepilex AG is a soft silicone foam dressing used to cover open wounds. There is silver in the dressing that helps prevent infection. The dressing will absorb drainage and keep the wound clean. This will help with healing. Mepilex AG does not stick to the wound. This makes checking the wound and changing the dressing less painful.

Mepilex AG is made for use on clean wounds. Change the outer dressing every day for the first three days after the burn. This is when there is the most drainage from the wound.

How often should it be changed?

Mepilex AG may be left in place for 5 to 7 days depending on the condition of the wound and skin around it. It should be changed when the drainage gets to the edge of the pad, or as directed by your nurse or doctor.

  1. If the Mepilex AG is completely wet with drainage to the edges:
  2. Wash your hands with soap and water. Dry them with a clean towel.
  3. Remove all of the dressings. Wash the wound with soap, water and a clean washcloth and remove all drainage. Rinse well and gently pat the wound dry.
  4. Take the plastic backing off the Mepilex AG.
  5. Put the sticky side of the Mepilex AG onto the wound. Do not stretch the Mepilex AG.
  6. Wrap with new rolled gauze or clean Tubigrip to hold Mepilex AG in place.
  7. Check the burn dressing daily until you return to clinic.
