What is cardiac rehab?
It is a program which helps people improve their heart health. In cardiac rehab you will have a team. The team includes doctor, nurse, exercise and nutrition specialists, physical therapists, and counselors. Cardiac rehab offers a variety of sessions.
These include:
- exercise training.
- learning how to eat healthy.
- reviewing how to take prescribed medicine.
- coaching you on how to quit smoking.
- mental health counseling to learn ways to relieve stress and improve well-being.
How can cardiac rehab help me?
- You may get relief from symptoms of heart problems, like chest pain. It can lower your risk for future illness and death from heart disease.
- Strengthen your heart and body.
- Build healthier habits. This includes being more active, quit smoking, and eat a heart-healthy diet.
- Reduce stress.
- Improve your mood.
- Increase your energy and strength. This will make it easier to do daily tasks like carrying groceries and climbing stairs.
