When our son, Ashton, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma at just 2 years old, we felt the same shock and sadness that any parents would. Our hearts were heavy and our anxiety high. We didn’t know how we were going to make it through.
But watching Ashton progress from the first day he was admitted until the day he was discharged was an indescribable feeling. My husband, Ko, and I saw every day how tough he was, how hard he fought to stay with us. With the help of our huge group of friends and family — and the care provided by Michael Burke, MD, and the team in the MACC Fund Center at Children’s Wisconsin — Ashton beat his cancer and is today a normal 4-year-old full of energy and life.
After Ashton’s cancer had been in remission over a year, we decided to go through all the old pictures and clips we took and make a video to honor his fight. See the video embedded at the top of this post. It was a very emotional experience, and we’re proud to share it with all of you.
