Dr. Leuthner practices neonatology at Children's Wisconsin and Waukesha Memorial Hospital. His interests include issues related to neonatal ethics, such as limits of viability and terminal conditions for neonates, end-of-life care and palliative care in neonatology and pediatrics and counseling families regarding the meaning of a prenatal diagnosis of fetal anomalies. He is the neonatal and ethics consultant to the palliative care service at Children's Wisconsin. He is on the executive team of the Fetal Concerns Center, a prenatal consultation program that is a joint venture between Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, Children's Wisconsin and the Medical College of Wisconsin. He was a co-investigator for the National Children’s Study, Waukesha County Vanguard Study Center, adding his expertise in human subject’s research. He is involved in teaching ethics for medical students during their second and third year clerkship, for pediatric and obstetrical residents, as well as graduate students in the Master’s Program in Bioethics at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He serves on the ethics committee at Children’s Wisconsin and Waukesha Memorial Hospital. He has served on the Counsel for Ethical and Judicial Affairs for the State Medical Society of Wisconsin, as well as an appointee on the Task Force for Newborn State Screening of the state of Wisconsin. He has served on the ethics committee for the Wisconsin Chapter, and a former member of the National Committee of Bioethics, for the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is a member of the Section on Hospice and Palliative Care of the AAP, and has served as the nominating committee chair for the executive committee of this section.
