October 2026
Children’s Wisconsin has recently developed a guideline for the care of infants with bronchiolitis that provides recommendations for evidence-based bronchiolitis care across the continuum from primary care up to the ICU. Highlights include:
- Information on RSV immunization for infants
- Evidence-backed suggestions to limit overuse of chest X-rays, albuterol, high flow nasal canula, and prolonged continuous pulse oximetry monitoring
- Reasons to consider escalation of care including patients who may be appropriate for direct admission to Children’s Wisconsin
Protect your patients with Nirsevimab!
October brings an opportunity to protect your patients against RSV bronchiolitis with Nirsevimab! All infants aged 0-8 months are eligible to be protected either via maternal RSV vaccination or infant Nirsevimab. High risk patients aged 8-19 months are also eligible for protection in their 2nd RSV season. New AAP guidelines have expanded those eligible for 2nd season Nirsevimab this year. Looking for quick reference on who is eligible? Check out Appendix A of our new Children’s Wisconsin Bronchiolitis Guideline!
