Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) is a neurological condition where the brain struggles to interpret and make sense of sounds, even though the ears hear normally. Children with APD have difficulty responding to and understanding speech in several situations. They are not having difficulty hearing sounds but have a hard time understanding what the sound means.
Who May Benefit from a Auditory Processing Disorder Evaluation?
Children who have a hard time with one or more of the following:
- Listening in noisy situations
- Following both simple and complex spoken directions
- Paying attention
- Mixing up sounds in words
- Remembering what was said
- Learning
