GERD treatment at Children’s Wisconsin

Our specialized constipation and reflux team treats infants under 18 months old. We take an evidence-based and noninvasive approach to treating GERD in infants. We try diet and lifestyle changes before prescribing medications. This helps limit a child’s risks and side effects.

Older kids and teens with GERD see our pediatric gastroenterologists and multidisciplinary feeding team. Our GERD experts offer diagnosis and evaluation, customized treatment plans and nutritional counseling. GERD is often resolved with diet and lifestyle changes, but medications are prescribed when necessary. These are typically stopped after two months when the esophagus has had time to heal.

Celiac care at Children’s Wisconsin

The Bonnie Lynn Mechanic Celiac Disease Clinic at Children’s Wisconsin offers a comprehensive celiac management program. Our providers work as an interdisciplinary team to treat gluten sensitivity conditions from birth through childhood.

Gluten triggers an immune reaction in people with celiac disease. This reaction causes damage to the small intestine and interferes with the body’s ability to digest and absorb nutrients. Diagnostic evaluation may include laboratory tests or endoscopic procedures (upper scope). If diagnosed with celiac disease, the conditions requires a strict, lifelong gluten-free diet.
