Your child's room

Alarms

For your child’s safety, medical equipment has alarms to let hospital staff know when your child or equipment needs to be checked.

For your child’s safety, no one should shut off alarms or disconnect children from equipment, except Children’s staff.

If you have any questions about your child’s equipment or alarms, please let your child’s care provider know right away.

Bathroom

You are welcome to use the bathroom in your child’s room.

Electrical items from home

Equipment that heats up — like curling irons, flat irons and hair dryers — is not allowed.

For your child’s protection, all patient care areas have tamper-resistant outlets. These outlets do not need caps or covers to be safe.

Isolation

Isolation precautions help to stop the spread of germs. A sign on the wall outside the room tells you about the precautions. You can ask your child’s care providers for an information sheet. Most patients with isolation precautions will need to stay in their rooms. Depending on how the germ is spread, you may have to wear protective clothing like a gown or gloves. The protective clothes must be taken off before you come out of the room. You must also wash your hands after leaving the patient’s room.

Nurse call system/emergency cords

Each patient room and bathroom has a call cord. Pulling this cord will let the patient care staff know your child needs help.

Room assignments

Pediatrics Unit

Rooms are assigned based on each child’s medical condition and the type of care needed. Though our goal is to provide your child with a private room, children may have to share rooms at certain times of the year due to the high number of children in the hospital. If your child has to share a room, they will not be placed in a room with a child who is contagious. They also will be placed with another child of the same gender.

Pediatrics or Neonatal Intensive Care units

Sometimes we may need to transfer your child to another room on the unit. Every effort will be made to inform you before the transfer. Your child’s care provider will tell you why the transfer is needed.

Telephone

All patient rooms have a direct telephone line. Local calls are free.

To reach your child's room on the Pediatric Unit after hours or to check your child's condition, call (920) 969-7900.

To speak to your infant's nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, call (920) 969-7990. The room number for your baby will be given to you.

Television on Pediatrics Unit

Each patient room has a television with a DVD player. A list of TV stations and available DVDs is located in your room. You may also bring your child’s favorite movies from home. Video game systems are also available for children. Please ask your nurse for assistance if your child would like to see a movie or play a video game.
