Funding the next wave of advancements in congenital heart disease is not always easy.

Basic research funding has traditionally come from the government, via the National Institutes of Health (NIH). But NIH funding has been drastically cut and the portion of funds devoted to pediatric research has remained flat since fiscal year 1992.

With this decrease of national funds, the Herma Heart Institute sought to find a way to find more sustainable ways to support innovations for children living with heart disease.
