Chiari Malformation Diagnosis and Treatment
Chiari malformation is a congenital defect in the area where the brain and spinal cord connect. Most commonly, it involves part of the brain shifting downward through the bottom of the skull. Symptoms may include rapid eye movement, developmental delays, feeding difficulties and neck stiffness.
It is often diagnosed at birth or when symptoms appear. Diagnosis may involve X-rays, CT scans and MRIs.
Treatment involves frequent physical examinations and testing to monitor the growth and development of the brain, spinal cord, skull and backbones. Some types of Chiari malformations may also require surgery to relieve increased pressure. Our team works with families to provide education and guidance to improve your child’s health and well-being.
