My Journey as a Foster Sibling

Kenzie F., Foster Sibling 2 minute read

Hi, my name is Kenzie and I am almost 11 years old. My moms have been fostering kids since I was 3. My mom says we have had 13 foster kids. They have also adopted my brother who is 7 and we hope to adopt my 5-year-old sister, too.

One of the best parts about fostering for me is coming home and realizing there is a new little one in our house and helping my moms snuggle them and offer them some love. I think it has helped me see people in a kinder way.

One of the hardest parts of fostering is having to share my moms with other kids. Don’t get me wrong, my moms are great about doing fun stuff with us all the time. One of the things I like is when my mom knows I need a break we will go for a drive and play a game of “left turn and right turn” and see where we end up. I am pretty good at getting us to Kwik Trip for a smoothie and snack or Starbucks.

Next, I would like to share some of my favorite memories or activities we do with my foster siblings. I love when our moms take us to a Brewers game as a family. We order some food and sit in the parking lot in our lawn chairs and listen to music before taking our whole crew in to watch the game. Another fun memory is when our moms let us have a movie night outside. We have a projector that we set up and can watch the movie on our garage door. Our moms make popcorn and other snacks, and we get to stay up late and watch the movie. If it’s cold, they turn on a fireplace and we bring our sleeping bags out to snuggle up in.

Fostering has brought my family joy. Also, it can be sad when we have to say goodbye. But I do like when we still get to keep in contact with the children my moms have fostered. Fostering has showed me how to be kind to others as you never know what they are going through.

Thanks for reading my journey as a foster sibling.
