Parents and caregivers are key to children’s development

There’s a saying that “Parents are a child’s first and most important teachers.” But parenting can be both joyous and challenging.

Because we all want our children to thrive, Children’s Wisconsin offers a variety of programs to help parents and caregivers – from parenting classes and groups to telephone advice, from one-on-one parent consultations to respite care for families of children with special needs. Many of these programs throughout the state are offered in partnership with local agencies and organizations.

Family Resource Centers in communities statewide

Our Family Resource Centers provide parents and caregivers with information and support to promote the healthy growth and development of children and to strengthen family relationships. Parenting classes, parent/child learning, in-home parent education, telephone advice and resource libraries are available. Services are free.

We have Family Resource Centers in several cities:

In addition, the Daniel M. Soref Family Resource Center, located at Children’s Wisconsin in Milwaukee, offers parent-to-parent support, information, referrals and help connecting to community resources. Programs and services are available to patient families as well as families who do not have children in our Milwaukee hospital or clinics.

Home visiting supports parents throughout Wisconsin

Through our home visiting programs, parent educators trained in various models provide in-home parent education, support, community resources, and child development services to pregnant and parenting families.

Parenting education program for Milwaukee area families

Triple P - Positive Parenting Program teaches families how to spend less time battling misbehavior and more time building close relationships. You’ll develop positive parenting skills to manage stress and encourage healthy habits, and that can mean more good days for your family.

Nurturing Parents/Parent Power is a weekly program that explores creative and effective ways to encourage positive behaviors and life experiences for you and your child. Using nurturing parenting techniques, moms and dads learn how to raise healthy, caring children and the importance of making time to care for themselves.
