- Project ADAM began in 1999 after the death of Adam Lemel, who was just 17-years-old when he collapsed and died of a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) while playing basketball. Unfortunately, the coaches and staff did not have the tools and skills needed to save Adam’s life.
- Shortly after his death, Adam’s parents, Patty and Joe Lemel, teamed up with Children’s Wisconsin to create Project ADAM (Automated Defibrillators in Adam’s Memory). Their continued hope is to make sure that other schools are prepared to save the lives of young people in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest.
- Children’s Wisconsin serves as the national headquarters for Project ADAM, which has now expanded to over 30 states. Learn more about how Project ADAM got started.
- Our goal in Wisconsin is to help establish emergency preparedness programs in schools, communities and youth sports programs that help to provide a timely and lifesaving response in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest.
