Conduct of Research

Information about the conduct of research at Children's Wisconsin post approval by an Institutional Review Board (IRB). Once a research project is active at Children's, there may be a need for modifications to the project, renewals with the IRB of record, and reporting of adverse events or instances of non-compliance. There will also be various types of post approval monitoring for which researchers will need to be prepared for and in which they will need to participate.

Investigators have a responsibility to be sure the Children's Human Research Protection Program (HRRP) and the IRB of record have up to date information on the research, and to conduct the research in compliance with federal regulations, local regulations and institutional policy.

When an investigator is in need of direction, guidance on projects being conducted in Children's space, using Children's resources or Children's patients/data, the first contact should be the Children's HRPP office. The Children's HRPP will reach out to the Medical College of Wisconsin pediatric IRBs or other IRB of record as needed for additional information or to bring them into the discussion when appropriate.
