Micah meets the man who saved his life

Evan Solochek, Writer Jan 06, 2020

Today, we’re wishing Micah a very happy birthday! He turns 4 years old thanks to Ben — the man who gave Micah the greatest gift of all and saved his life.

Micah was born with Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, a rare genetic disorder that caused his liver to fail. In early 2019, Micah was placed on the transplant list. Thankfully, elementary school teacher Ben had signed up to be an altruistic donor and was a match. In early December, a month before Micah turned 4, Ben donated part of his liver to Micah. A few weeks later, the two met for the first time and Micah’s family got to say thank you to the man who saved his life.

Check out this touching video of Micah and his family meeting Ben for the first time.
