Dr. Walter enjoys caring for young athletes from elementary school through college (ages 8-22).  He involves the athlete and their family in the decision making process with the goal of keeping people active and healthy while returning to play as quickly and safely as possible.  Dr. Walter helped create the Sports Medicine and Sports Concussion programs at Children's Wisconsin.

Dr. Walter is the chair of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Sports Medicine Advisory Committee, where he has served as a member since 2005. He was appointed to a four year term with the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Sports Medicine Advisory Committee from 2008-2012, and has returned since that time as a consultant to work on several projects.  He was also appointed to the National Academy of Sciences committee on Sport-related Concussion in Youth, serving as a primary author on their landmark report.

Dr. Walter is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Council on Sports Medicine and Fitness, where he was elected to the Executive Committee in 2019. He is also an active member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine, and Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine national organizations.   He has published numerous research articles and textbook chapters on Sports Medicine and Concussion, and he is often invited to speak at regional and national medical education meetings on those topics.

Dr. Walter is an Associate Medical Consultant for the Green Bay Packers.  He is the team physician for Waukesha South High School.  Dr. Walter works as a  Lead Unaffiliated Neurotraumatic Consultant for the National Football League. He also works with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Athletic Training.  He is often involved with advocacy and policy efforts to improve safety, access, and guidelines for young athletes at the regional, state and national levels.

Dr Walter asked numerous times if we had questions. He asked my son if he had any questions. We did not feel rushed and we feel confident in his diagnosis of our son's problem

It was an awesome visit. The front desk got us checked in quickly, despite it being a very busy morning in the clinic. We were seen. Everybody was courteous, from the tech to the x-ray technicians to the provider. Everybody was friendly and courteous, and it was a very quick and efficient visit.

At the beginning of the visit, Doctor Walter, took my son's phone and AirPods right out of his hands without asking him. My son was fully attentive to the doctor from the second he walked in and so we felt that was rude. He could have simply asked him to put them to the side instead.

I am beyond pleased with the level of care my son received! We got down to the cause of the issue and they treated the whole person not just the issue. When they realized he also had anxiety they spoke with him about that, have us resources to get a therapist and spoke to him how the goal is to get him healthy both body and mind. Dr Walter is incredible. He did a great job explaining everything that was going on and the plans to make it better.

Dr. Walter does an extremely wonderful job of getting patients in in a timely manner. And when looking at high school athletes taking into account what their specific goals are regarding to their specific sport and specific season, the desk staff was courteous and made me feel welcome.

I now have a much clearer understanding of my injury. Dr. Walter explained everything in a timely manner and covered all the details I missed when I saw an Aurora orthopedic. I trust him for further treatment and know I'll feel better soon under his care. I will definitely recommend him to the younger individuals I know in my life.

This is a great office! The sports medicine physical therapist and doctor were amazing. We were referred over to the doctor. Which we would definitely refer someone we know to them. They are great! They explain things where people who are not medically inclined can understand what the heck is going on. Yet also tell you the medical terms. I learned a lot and so did my son. My son is involved in sports and people have raved about this clinic. We went here 2 years ago and it was just as great!!! The sports medicine physical therapist remembered my son after 2 years and only seeing him once for a different issue. The doctor did a great job with explanation, what to expect, next steps. I left without any questions. However they did tell us if we do have some later how we can reach out. They listen when you provide answers to their questions. Ok I could go on and on....it is a great great doctor and sports medicine physical therapist!!!

Sports medicine clinic was great! Appreciate the time Dr. Walter spent with us. Answered all of our questions and listened to our concerns. It was unfortunate that radiology could not get us in for an MRI for two weeks. We decided to get MRI at an outside facility due to the wait.

I appreciate that they called back expeditiously, even if it was the next day. I also appreciated that they could get him in as soon as they could, that they were willing to help with that, considering we had two different issues in less than a week's time. And otherwise, yes, it was a good experience, and I like the scheduling for the sports medicine, because when we were done, we went right downstairs and scheduled his PT. That's it, but thanks.

The doctor and his team are thorough, knowledgeable and take time to listen and physically work to understand where the problem is. They talk to you not at you, and allow time for questions. They seem to truly care about your well being and the right solutions to heal your injury
