Primary care e-visits
E-visits are an easy way to get care from your primary care team without needing to schedule a visit or leaving your home. You can have an e-visit for the following conditions:
- Fever
- Pink eye
- Rash
- Cough
To start an e-visit, you will need an active MyChart account. Click here to login or register for a free MyChart account. Then, you will fill out questions in MyChart about your child’s symptoms and upload any photos or videos, if necessary. A provider from the Children’s Wisconsin primary care team will respond with a care plan. If medication is needed, it will be sent to your pharmacy. E-visits will be billed to your insurance on file, subject to any coinsurance, copay or deductible. If the provider feels an in-person visit is needed, you will not be charged for the e-visit.
How long does an e-visit take?
It takes about 10-15 minutes to answer the questions. On the form, you may be asked for insurance information or your child’s medication lists.
An e-visit may need to change to an in-person visit if the provider cannot give you a care plan with the information provided.
When are e-visits available?
E-visits can be submitted 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They are reviewed during normal business hours Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. If an e-visit is submitted during normal business hours, the family will receive a response within 4 hours. E-visits submitted after 3 p.m. or on the weekend will receive a response the following business day by 11 a.m.
Who is eligible for an e-visit?
E-visits are only available for patients who have seen a Children’s Wisconsin primary care provider within the last three years and are under 21 years old. You must be physically located in the state of Wisconsin to submit an e-visit due to state law and regulations.
You must have a MyChart account to complete an e-Visit. Click here to login or register for a free MyChart account.
If your child is experiencing an emergency, call 9-1-1. If your child needs urgent medical care, consider urgent care or the Emergency Department. If your child needs treatment for a condition other than those listed above, please call or text your clinic to make an appointment. If you are unsure if your child needs to be seen, use our symptom checker to find out.
Will we be treated by my regular primary care provider?
Your child will be treated by a Children’s Wisconsin primary care provider who is available at the moment you need care. Your child’s regular primary care provider will have access to their diagnosis and treatment plan in their medical record.
