On a sunny May afternoon, Blossom Felicien took her family to get a peek at the new Children’s Wisconsin Good Hope Clinic. Last May, the family participated in the clinic’s groundbreaking ceremony, where Jonathan, Janell and Bella grinned as they left handprints in wet cement to mark the occasion. At the community open house a year later, the kids found their handprints outside the front entrance of the new building, “which makes it feel so special,” said Blossom.
The care team at Good Hope Pediatrics has made a lasting impression on their family, too. For nearly two decades, pediatrician Christen McAlpine-Tesfai, MD, has been Blossom’s trusted resource for her four kids’ annual physicals, late-night ear infections and much more.
“Dr. Tesfai is basically our family now,” said Blossom, who works for Children’s Wisconsin as a phlebotomist on the Milwaukee campus. “I come to her for every single thing, and she’s just been very thorough. She listens to us. She doesn’t dismiss anything that we’re saying. She treats us like we’re her own family.”
Blossom was thrilled when she learned that Good Hope Pediatrics was moving to a new, much larger clinic just down the road at 7201 W. Good Hope Rd., next to the Uihlein Soccer Park. The 20,000-square-foot facility is more than triple the size of the old location, offering primary care, integrated mental health, urgent care and imaging services. It opened to patients for appointments on May 12, and the community got a preview during an open house the previous week.
“The grand opening was absolutely beautiful,” said Blossom. “The layout is stunning, and the large glass windows flood the clinic with natural light. It really brightens up the entire space.”
The more spacious facility enabled Children’s Wisconsin to add another primary care physician and an additional mental and behavioral health provider, and the urgent care provides a convenient walk-in care option for less serious illnesses and injuries. Before the new clinic, families in the area had to travel to Wauwatosa or Mequon to access pediatric urgent care, which was only available on weekday evenings and weekends.
“We are very excited,” said Blossom. “It’s very helpful that we don’t have to wait to be seen at an urgent care now.”

The expansion was needed to meet the needs of the community. Milwaukee’s north side is home to the second largest pediatric population in the city, and Good Hope Pediatrics treats more than 4,000 kids.
“This new Good Hope Clinic and its expanded services allow the team at Children’s Wisconsin to provide more of the needed care when and where it can be most impactful,” said Michael Gutzeit, MD, President of Primary Care at Children’s Wisconsin. “We are dedicated to expanding pediatric care and providing pediatric specialists to the north side and helping families have options close to home.”
The clinic care team has earned rave reviews from patient families over the years. In one recent online review, a parent shared: “I love coming to the Good Hope location. Everyone is courteous, helpful and pleasant to interact with. The medical assistants are friendly and are very great at interacting with kids and meeting them at their level, making them feel comfortable, especially for shots and lead testing. Everyone is great, from the receptionist to the doctors. I would recommend this clinic to any and everyone.”
“Always a great experience at Good Hope Pediatrics,” wrote another parent. “Trust them with my child's health care needs 100%.”
Good Hope Pediatrics’ providers and services have now transferred over to the new location. The urgent care services at the Mayfair Clinic, which was only able to offer limited urgent care hours due to space constraints, have also moved to the Good Hope location to meet increasing demand for walk-in services.
Thanks to the expanded facility, the clinic’s care team is able to do even more to support the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of patients ranging from infants to young adults.
“The families who come to Good Hope really come because they want to establish not only medical care, but also relationships,” said Dr. McAlpine-Tesfai. “So, by being able to have a larger space and capacity to build those relationships, we can make them even stronger.”
