Our child well-being programs offer fulfilling and challenging career opportunities for individuals who have a passion for working with children and families involved in child welfare. We are committed to creating an environment for staff to build experiences and skills for a career versus a job. We continuously try to evolve in how we support staff.

Currently we are offering the following experiences for staff:

  • Various forms of coaching for new hires into the Family Case Management, Intensive In-Home and Family Support programs

  • Leadership development and mentoring for staff interested in expanding their career opportunities — 84% of leadership/supervisor hired in the program since 2010 have been internal hires

    • Tuition assistance for staff to put toward a degree program for any position at Children's Wisconsin
    • Opportunities to participate in University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's part-time Title IV-E program, allowing staff to earn their master's degree in Social Work while working

Roles

We’re looking for child and family therapists to provide the skilled, caring counseling services kids need throughout our system. In this role, you’ll help children and parents find healing as they work through extensive histories of trauma and abuse, depression, anxiety, behavioral problems and adoption or foster care issues.

Job Summary

Child and family therapists have a variety of duties, including the following:

  • Assessing, diagnosing and treating children, adults and families with mental or emotional problems
  • Maintaining positive working relationships with referral sources and community organizations
  • Developing treatment plans and goals on a quarterly basis
  • Communicating with client’s collateral contacts, such as school personnel, health care providers and family members
  • Maintaining case files, including progress notes and other required documentation
  • Completing insurance-authorization paperwork throughout the course of treatment
  • Providing case consultation and case review with colleagues

Job requirements:

  • Master’s degree in social work or a related field, along with 3,000 hours of post-master’s experience — or PhD/PsyD from an accredited program
  • Wisconsin state licensure to provide clinical services
  • MA billing provider status or ability to achieve status within one month of hire
  • Experience in these areas is preferred:
    • Child welfare or a specialty like trauma, adoption or EMDR
    • Counseling services to help children and their parents heal from mental, emotional or social issues and experience treating families with complex mental health concerns

Job Summary

The family case manager helps bring services and support to children and families as part of protective services case management. In this role, you will direct the child protective services case process using the “family teaming” method of a strength-based, family-centered approach. This includes:

  • Child and family assessment
  • Development and management of services and case plans
  • Use of resources, including supports and services to ensure child safety
  • Evaluation and monitoring of case progress and movement toward case closure

Family case managers are responsible for decision-making and case activity that supports appropriate use of in-home safety plans, out-of-home safety plans and permanency plans.

You’ll also perform adoption case management and finalizations, including negotiating adoption assistance subsidies and completing court work, provide intensive in-home management services on designated cases and complete all necessary documentation.

Candidates must have bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, criminal justice or other field that meets child-placing license requirements. Social work certification is preferred.

Community-Based Social Workers

Social workers with Children's Wisconsin Community Services provide case management for children in need of protection services. The goal is to achieve reunification or another form of permanence for each child. Our social workers also recruit and license foster and adoptive parents, and match children to families who can meet their specific needs.

Social workers with Children's Wisconsin Family and Community Partnerships provide case management for children in need of protection or services, with the goal of achieving reunification or some other form of permanence for each child.

Hospital-Based Social Workers

In our hospitals, social workers provide support to families who need financial assistance or who face particularly stressful circumstances. Other hospital-based social workers provide support for patients with chronic, long-lasting or life-threatening illnesses, and their families.
