We offer part- and full-time positions, including 12-hour shifts, an internal float pool and weekend programs in a variety of care settings so that nurses can balance career objectives with personal and family needs. Weekend and night shift programs are available for bonuses. Part-time positions at a point five or higher are eligible for benefits.

About Our Nursing Team

Children's Wisconsin has received four consecutive Magnet® designations from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Our Milwaukee and Fox Valley hospitals, Surgicenter, specialty and primary care clinics, community and school-based nurses are recognized for excellence in nursing practice. More than 80% of our nurses have earned a bachelor's degree or higher in nursing, which is preferred. In partnership with the Medical College of Wisconsin, more than 170 advanced practice nurses partner with physicians as members of the Children's Wisconsin care team.

On the forefront of pediatric medicine, Children's Wisconsin nurses are using new technologies and applying advanced treatment options. Focused on evidence-based care and outcomes, our nurses are setting care standards — not only adopting best practices but developing and sharing them too. Help Kids Get the Care They Need, Close to Home

Children’s Wisconsin is looking for experienced pediatric nurses to help us deliver high quality care in locations that are convenient and accessible for Wisconsin families. As an ambulatory float nurse, you’ll travel to our clinics in Delafield, Fox Point, Greenfield, Kenosha and New Berlin.

Every day will be different, and you’ll make a difference to kids. Working one-on-one with Children’s Wisconsin specialty providers, you will provide primary nursing care, assist with on-site procedures and give patients and families the education and support they need for the healthiest outcome.

Job Summary

The community nurse supervisor assumes a variety of duties, including the following:

  • Provides leadership in clinical practice, orientation, clinical education and professional development for health care staff at community contracted entities
  • Serves as clinical practice role model in the care of children and families, monitors practice standards and facilitates interventions based on quality improvement, competency and evaluation of data, evaluates clinical practice environment and quality of care
  • Shares accountability for development of clinical competencies in collaboration with staff and leadership team
  • Facilitates access, interpretation and use of clinical research to support evidence-based practice and improved patient and system outcomes
  • Develops and monitors unit operating and personnel budgets
  • Manages a variety of roles related to consultation and collaboration, professional development and administration (personnel, compliance, program standards and needs, coordination and reporting to program medical director)
  • Ensures timely clinical assessment and documentation for covered children

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of science degree in nursing (BSN) with professional knowledge and clinical expertise in family-centered care of infants, children and adolescents
  • Knowledge of child welfare service delivery and non-profit management at a level normally acquired through three years of progressively responsible experience in community or public health nursing
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to think critically
  • Current license to practice professional nursing in Wisconsin
  • Supervisory experience, with progressive management responsibility
  • Current CPR certification — Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers through American Heart or American Red Cross
  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, personal auto liability insurance coverage and the ability to be insured by the CHHS auto-insurance carrier
  • Experience in the out-of-home care field, public speaking and group facilitation (preferred)

As a Children’s Wisconsin Emergency Department nurse, you can practice your specialty at the region’s only independent health system dedicated solely to the health and well-being of children. We’re a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center with highly specialized facilities, services and care for kids, and we see more than 60,000 emergency/trauma visits each year.

At Children’s Wisconsin, you’ll have the unique opportunity to:

  • Care for kids and support families during an emergency visit, and help them navigate the health system to access additional care or services they may need
  • Tackle diverse tasks — from triage to patient placement to trauma and primary care — and be involved in many aspects of the nursing process, including care management, discharge planning, teaching, consultation and research
  • Collaborate with highly skilled pediatric medical and nursing professionals as part of our team-centered approach
