Let’s face it. This is not an easy time for any of us. It seems our emotions can quickly change from worry and stress to relaxed and calm at any given moment of the day. It can be even more difficult to have a sense of how our kids are coping. Depending upon their age and emotional stage, they may be processing what is happening in the world right now very differently.
I work as part of an educational team at Children’s Wisconsin that creates online health education programming for schools. Our programs focus on kids’ health and wellness topics. All content is presented in age-appropriate ways, and kids report that these programs are really fun.
We are pleased to announce that Children’s Wisconsin is now making our e-learning health education programming available to all Wisconsin families as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic together — sign up now to get started for free. Our goal of opening these programs up to all is to offer some easy, low-stress learning opportunities for your kids to stay on the path to wellness and emotional health during this uncertain time in all of our lives.
Two of our programs in particular may be especially helpful now:
Mission: Health focuses on kids’ health and wellness and is offered for kids in kindergarten through 8th grade. In the course, kids learn how to eat right, stay fit and feel good about their bodies. In particular, kids will learn:
They’ll also learn about the value of goal setting in living a healthy lifestyle and ways to develop and maintain a positive self-image.
Healthy Minds is a newer program currently offered for kids in 3rd and 4th grade that focuses on mental and emotional health. Kids learn ways to recognize their feelings, connect with others and other healthy habits. In particular, kids will learn:
Our other program offerings include Act Now! (bullying prevention) and It’s UR Choice (alcohol, tobacco and other drugs prevention). Getting started couldn't be easier — just complete a simple registration and then select the grade level(s) you are interested in. You will receive access to all the courses available for the grade(s) you’ve selected. As an added feature, you’ll also be given access to games taken directly from our programs that kids can play online any time.
I know things are difficult at the moment but we are all in this together and I hope you'll find these courses useful and meaningful.
