Children's Wisconsin was able to help Sammy when other hospitals couldn't.
Each year, more than 9,000 children are treated in emergency departments and hospitals for injuries related to lawn mowers.
During this time of social distancing, online learning and safer at home, parents and kids are looking for some online resources to help stay active and engaged and to keep everyone’s stress levels in check. Thankfully, Children’s Wisconsin has many online resources for families that can help your family stay healthy during this very trying time.
Mission: Healthy Kids is a partnership of Kohl’s Cares® and Children’s Wisconsin. The program focuses on nutrition, physical activity and healthy minds. Information for families is grouped by child’s age and stage: ages 2-4, ages 5-12 and ages 13 and up.
Some especially popular resources are:
Healthy Cooking with Kids videos: This video series on YouTube includes how-to videos and simple recipes for kids and families to make at home. Try egg cups, fruit kabobs and sweet potato fries with chipotle yogurt dip, among other healthy dishes.
Physical activity videos: Several videos show some simple warm ups as well as strength training exercises that can easily be done at home.
KidsHealth is a resource on the Children’s Wisconsin website. KidsHealth has a robust database of health information with activities and information geared toward kids, teens and parents. Information is available in both English and Spanish.
For kids: This section has videos, games and information about health topics, just for kids. The How the Body Works section features quizzes, articles, movies, activities and word finds. There’s also a popular Icky Q&A and much more to keep kids engaged while learning more about their bodies and health.
For teens: This section has a number of health topics geared just toward teens. Videos explore different topics like social and emotional health, health care careers, and more. Resource sections include stress and coping, babysitting, donating blood, teen talks and more.
For parents: The searchable database has a large catalog of medical and parenting topics for parents to explore including school and family life, homework help center, emotions and behavior and an A to Z catalog of medical terms and conditions.
COVID-19: The KidsHealth library now includes resources on COVID-19 — in both English and Spanish — including articles and information for parents, kids, teens and educators.
We hope that these resources along with many others available online will help you and your family stay positive, enriched and informed. If there is additional information on health and family topics you are looking for, please send us an email at healthykids@childrenswi.org and we will try to connect you with resources.
