Overview

Services

Dr. Basir believes best patient outcomes are achieved when parents are involved in the medical care of their hospitalized child. Most parents, including many physicians who are not pediatricians, have little knowledge about diseases and problems of newborn infants. Having a sick newborn infant in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is very stressful for most parents. More information about the disease and expected outcomes decreases parental uncertainty and stress. Dr. Basir increases parental knowledge of their child’s care by encouraging parents to participate in morning rounds, improving parental access to their child’s medical information and improving doctor-parent communication. These interventions will help parents become better advocates for their child.
