Pediatric nephrology fellowships at Children’s

Our mission is to train future pediatric nephrologists who are highly competent in clinical nephrology and have the necessary skills to become successful academicians in education, clinical or basic science research and/or administration.

We have an ACGME accredited three year program of which The Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals (MCWAH) has general oversight. All of the division faculty are board certified in pediatric nephrology and along with staff, will be integral to the fellowship trainee's clinical education. The fellowship directors and pediatric faculty provide a Joint Fellowship Program year-round that covers curriculum such as research design, ethics, teaching methods, quality improvement processes, interviewing for jobs, etc.

Continuing medical education at Children’s

Children’s host Best Practices in Pediatrics CME conferences. On-demand archived webcasts of Practical Pediatrics Grand Rounds. Grand Rounds events and Grand Rounds videos. Additional conference and training programs and our online newsletter, Pediatric Rounds.

Research and quality at Children’s

The Division of Nephrology has a comprehensive research program, including basic science, translational, and clinical research. Our areas of research include:

  • Acute kidney injury
  • Polycystic Kidney Disease
  • Chronic Renal Insufficiency
  • Nephrotic Syndrome

We actively participate in NIH funded research studies, industry sponsored clinical trials, and investigator initiated research through the Midwest Pediatric Nephrology Consortium, a multicenter study consortium devoted to seeking new knowledge in pediatric kidney diseases to improve patient care.

Our center is proud to offer our patients the opportunity to participate in clinical trials and research studies, including the Chronic Kidney Disease in Children Prospective Cohort Study (CKid). We are grateful for the invaluable contributions they have made to the advancement of kidney research. To find out more about the research studies currently available, please contact (Theresa Kump / the division) at (414)337-7144 / (414)337-7140.

NIH award - Research Center of Excellence in Pediatric Nephrology

Our institution has been a recipient of the NIH award, which granted the Medical College of Wisconsin $4.6 million to develop one of only two Research Centers of Excellence in Pediatric Nephrology in the country. This grant resulted in multiple extramural funded projects, furthered the depth of the college’s research infrastructure and provided research training for fellows and post-doctoral students.
