Viktor Hraska MD, PhD was trained at Boston Children’s Hospital. During his career he was in charge of pediatric cardiac surgical programs in Children's Hospital Bratislava, Slovakia, University Hospital Eppendorf Hamburg, Germany, the German Pediatric Heart Center Sankt Augustin, Germany. Before retiring from clinical responsibilities, he was the surgical director of the Herma Heart Institute. Dr. Hraska chose to come to the Herma Heart Institute because of the program’s high quality and multidisciplinary approach to heart care. He looks forward to being involved in several important projects within the institute including developing research initiatives in lymphatics and aortic valve repair and will remain an extremely valued resource for his knowledge and experience in the care of patients with corrected transposition.

Research and publications

Research

Clinical practice: The surgical treatment of complex congenital cardiovascular defects, performing 200 surgeries annually. Surgical caseload includes many regional, national, and international referrals.

Teaching: Clinical instruction offered to fellows in cardiovascular surgery.

Research: Clinical research is aimed at evaluating cardiovascular outcomes after surgery for congenital heart defects. Research involves introduction of several new techniques for treatment of congenital heart defects into clinical practice
