Your child should have less ear infections after ear tubes are placed, but it is still possible to get ear infections with tubes. This may occur with colds.
Any liquid or drainage from the ear is not normal and means your child has an ear infection. The drainage may be clear, white, yellow or bloody.
If you notice ear drainage at home, start your ear drops, four to five ear drops in the draining ear twice a day for seven days
If the drainage lasts for more than seven days or your feel that the ear drops are not going in well because the drainage is so thick, please call our office for an appointment
Our office has special equipment where we can look in your child's ear with a microscope and clean the ear out so the drops can work better. Sometimes just cleaning the ear out well helps the child get better quicker.
Most often, oral antibiotics are not needed for ear infections with ear tubes. Ear drops have antibiotics in them, so this gets right to the source of the infection in the ear. If your child has ear drainage along with thick nasal congestion, fever, cough, or other concerning symptoms, please call our office.
